Weird, beautiful & unusualLeopard tortoise (Stigmochelys pardalis) is a large and attractively marked tortoise found in the savannas of eastern and southern Africa. Unlike most tortoises, leopard tortoises can swim & float well thanks to their unique neck structure and the absence of a nuchal shield. They use their throats to detect odors, they also do not hibernate. They have an organ called a bursa sac where they store water during dry seasons, which helps them stay hydrated and also moistens the ground when they dig nests to lay eggs. Weird, beautiful & unusualThis one looks like some species from another planet. It is Six-banded armadillo (Euphractus sexcinctus), also known as the yellow armadillo, is an armadillo found in South America. Unlike most other armadillos, they are diurnal (active during day), they are skilled diggers, creating burrows up to 2 meters deep for shelter and sleeping. They have an acute sense of smell. Unlike other armadillos, they cannot roll into a ball for protection, instead they flee into their burrows when threatened. They could also share their burrows with other individuals, suggesting a more social nature than other armadillos. They scent-mark their territory using scent glands located at the base of their tails.
